Top Banana Education Foundation Raises Money for the New Classroom in Newton on Cauzoom

Top Banana Education Foundation has successfully completed a month long fundraising project hosted on Cauzoom.com. The goal of the project has been to raise the funds for purchasing desks for a newly built classroom at the Top Banana’s facility in Newton, MA where elementary and middle school students enroll in the after-school mathematics program in order to strengthen their knowledge, broaden skills and excel in the subject and beyond.

“The Top Banana program is perhaps unique. When I was a kid, we were taught the multiplication tables … sort of basic concepts … but it was really up to us to think through the way numbers work. You would follow formulas but that was about as far as they took it. Top Banana makes it possible for the kids to think critically, to be familiar and comfortable with the math principals. And that’s the advantage.” said Steve Turney whose son and daughter have been enrolled in the program for multiple years.

“It gives the students so many techniques to solve the same problem. It seems that what they’re learning in their normal coursework is ‘a technique’ to solve a very specific problem. What I feel they’re getting at Top Banana is a set of techniques that really show the relationship of all numbers.” added Dave Gershon, the father of two boys who also have a long history of attending the classes.

Based on the success during the past few years, Top Banana Education Foundation is expanding its Newton facility to make its premier program accessible to children from the underserved, financially underprivileged families. “As a country we can only close the existing education achievement gap if high quality education is engrained in our culture. This is only possible when the innovative and effective educational programs are accessible to all children.” said Alex Seriy, Founder and CEO of Top Banana.

During this fundraising campaign, the Top Banana supporters were purchasing pre-paid debit cards for Whole Foods, Panera Bread and Apple Computers. Each card purchase resulted in a contribution toward the campaign’s goal of $1,000. Over forty individuals and businesses, including the Top Banana parents, actively participated in the campaign.
